Blatant Localism: HBO Brought Its Own Luck (And All Its Stars) To Mandalay Bay

Dustin Hoffman and Nick Nolte on the Luck red carpet.

I attended the Las Vegas screening of Michael Mann’s pilot for the new David Milch HBO series, Luck.  Dustin Hoffman and Nick Nolte, and all the cast, turned up to show their support.

Blatant Localism: Circus Circus Video Arcade Is Just As Strange As Circus Circus

The Circus Circus Video Arcade.

Part three of a trilogy of Circus Circus related stories. This time reflecting on the creepy vibe given off by the arcade next to the Midway. The Midway is cool though, so it all evens out.

Blatant Localism: Fear And Loathing As Visitors Discover The Carousel Bar Has Closed.

The Carousel Bar at Circus Circus.

Part two of a trilogy of Circus Circus related stories. The bar mythologized by Hunter S. Thompson in Fear and Loathing In Las Vegas is no more. That would be The Carousel Bar/ The Horse-Around Bar/The Merry-Go-Round Bar. All the same. All gone.

Here’s my review at VegasChatter:

The Carousel Bar at Circus Circus is no more.

Blatant Localism: The Chuck Jones Experience Is Open For Rabbit Season.

The Chuck Jones Experience at Circus Circus.

Part one of a trilogy of  Circus Circus related stories. The first is a visit to the Chuck Jones museum, or rather Experience. Think most people would be expecting less of Chuck and more Experience.

Here’s my review at VegasChatter:

The Chuck Jones Experience is open for rabbit season.

Blatant Localism: Drop Some Quarters Into Downtown’s Insert Coin(s)

Insert Coin(s) is the Las Vegas version of Flynn’s from Tron, (1982) and the End of Line Club from, er, Tron, (2010.) Go visit. I did. I’ll go back. Here’s my review.

Blatant Localism: CityCenter’s Art Collection Hidden in Plain Sight

CityCenter’s forty million dollar art collection sprawls over the complex. I visited all the pieces on display and created a photographic tour. A worthwhile experience if you are in the neighborhood. If only to see Jenny Holzer’s hypnotic installation, Vegas.
